My Favourite Films

In this article I'm going to talk about some of my favourite films. I'll give a brief description of them and explain why I enjoy them so much.

Stalker (1987)

Stalker is a Soviet-era film directed by Andrei Tarkovsky (who is undoubtedly my favourite film maker of all time).

The film follows a group of men as they enter a mysterious supernatural area called "the Zone". They search the Zone for a room that is said to grant the desires of whoever enters it.

I enjoy this film for it's exceptional cinematography, exploration of philosophical themes and unconventional narrative and pacing.

Metropolis (1927)

Metropolis is a silent German expressionist sci-fi film. It was directed by Fritz Lang.

The film takes place in the city of Metropolis, a city where the upper class live in luxury and the lower class are forced to operate dangerous machinery underground to maintain the upper class's lavish lifestyle.

I enjoy this film for it's political and religious themes and stunning expressionist aesthetic.

The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928)

The Passion of Joan of Arc is a silent historical film. It was directed by Carl Theodor Dreyer.

The film depicts the trial and execution of Joan of Arc after her capture by the English.

I enjoy this film for it's exceptional depiction of historical events, exceptional cinematography and one of the best performances I've ever seen in film from Renée Jeanne Falconetti as Joan of Arc.

Parasite (2019)

Parasite is a dark comedy thriller. It was directed by Bong Joon-ho.

The film follows a poor family as they gain jobs working for a snobby rich family through deceitful methods.

I enjoy this film for it's dark comedy, brilliant political messaging, exceptional montage scene and for being generally awesome.
